Power Save Mode (PSM)
Main purpose of PSM
To decrease the data usage on your device and to extend battery life.
NB-IoT Frequency Bands
NB-IoT is an enhanced narrowband data transmission protocol designed for IoT devices. The NB-IoT protocol is optimized to deliver lower data rates but with improved security and longer battery life.
LTE-NB: RRC
The uppermost layer on the control plane of the access stratum is radio resource control (RRC) (AS). It also transports non-access stratum (NAS) messages, which are positioned above the RRC layer. The RRC layer contains a number of information components that make up system information.
Security Features of LTE-M and NB-IoT
Any cellular connection begins with a SIM card. Because a SIM card is a chip, you can store data on it. It contains information that helps cell towers recognize the card and know to whom it belongs.
MIBs and SIBs
The Master Information Blocks (MIBs) contains the most important and often communicated system information.
NB-IoT NPDSCH
The NPDSCH channel transports unicast data from an eNB (base station) to an NB-IoT device.
NB-IoT NRS
Narrowband Reference Signal (NRS) is used for cell search and initial system acquisition. It's utilized to allow the device to estimate the downlink channel.
NB-IoT NSSS
The Narrowband Secondary Synchronisation Signal (NSSS) provides time and frequency synchronisation of user equipment in a cellular network.
NB-IoT NPBCH
NB-IoT Physical Broadcast Channel (NPBCH) is used to carry MIB information to the device in the downlink by eNB (base station).
NB-IoT RACH Procedure
The NB-IoT RACH procedure is a lower power state, where it can conserve its battery life by entering idle mode. The NB-IoT RACH procedure is based on the IEEE 802.11ah standard.
NB-IoT NPSS
The Narrowband Primary Synchronization Signal (NPSS) is transmitted continuously at the lowest possible power level.
NB-IoT Synchronization Signals
The NB-IoT Synchronization Signals are used for synchronization between the distributed systems. It includes the synchronization of the data packets.
